Vivonne Bay is where the crayfishing boats dock to off haul their load of crayfish and transport their fine catch to depots only minutes from the jetty.
The flawless curved white sandy bay and turquoise blue waters of Vivonne Bay have been known to see the occasional Southern Right Whale in the waters during the winter months.
Nearly all year round you will see a keen surfer or two displaying their incredible talents while trying to catch that next perfect wave. This is the place to also see fisherman either fishing off the beach with large surf rods or off the jetty with hand lines or smaller fishing rods. Many a tale has left these waters about the big one that got away!
During summer the mouth of the river at Vivonne Bay is an excellent swimming area for the younger children. Shallow calm sheltered waters just right for the little ones.
Only a short drive from Vivonne Bay you have Seal Bay which is a must for all the family, the seals are just a delight. The Little Sahara is also close by, shifting white sand dunes that rise high above the surrounding sea of deep-green mallee scrub lands. Hire some sandboards and surf the sand, or bring your own and spend a day having fun!
Murray Lagoon, approximately 30kms from Vivonne Bay, is the largest lagoon on the island and is an important habitat for many varieties of birds. Murray Lagoon is certainly worth a walk around at sunset to see the wildlife activity and to watch the sunset.
