LOCAL TALENT ON SHOW

In 1988 a small group of local artists and craftspeople met to form the Kangaroo Island Art Society Inc. and to open Kangaroo Island's first gallery.

The local council assisted the group by allowing them to convert a historic building into what it is today - a well presented Art Gallery with a high standard of work for sale.

What still makes the Gallery unique is that all artwork on display is by residents living full time on Kangaroo Island.  Operating as an artist's cooperative, it is run as a not for profit organisation with artists staffing and managing the Gallery.

By nature of the diversity of artists using different mediums and with varying levels of experience, the Gallery provides an opportunity to explore the breadth of Kangaroo Island inspired art.

Artists that are now represented in national and state galleries had their beginnings here.
